As the seasons renew, the fashion industry expands its range of innovative, technological, and environmentally-reduced materials and fabrics developed with more natural fibers and presents them to our liking. The innovations in the framework that come to the fore in the following spring/summer 2024 season strengthen the new collections of the companies.
Istanbul Fashion Academy (IMA) Fashion Design Programs Team Leader Cansu Bodur discussed the 2024 spring-summer fabric and material trends. Stating that we need to be ready for a colorful summer season that is more positive than ever before, stimulating emotions and encouraging action, Bodur said, “Future effects that are breathing based on observations and creating a focus of attraction; It is seen in fabric developments that are based on the birth of innovations in creativity and imagination, blended with refreshing spring structures. “Carbon-neutral, recyclable synthetics, bio-based ingredients, and dyeing methods help reduce environmental impact while energy-saving production processes are the mainstays of developing more sustainable resources.” said.
Mentioning that the merino wool-based fabric, developed jointly by Woolmark Company and Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli at Pitti Filati, is one of the products that stand out with its lightness, elastane, strength, and moisture-wicking properties, Bodur continued his words: “Linen in an ecological structure provides an extra layer in designs. It collects fluid materials, easily releases classics, and provides a magical look on smooth fabrics. In addition to providing coolness, it creates an airy layer between us and the sun. It is observed that the fabrics with the finest finishes of the prominent qualities of the season support a comfortable and uniform firm stance, offering softness for products that move, run, and pedal.”
HERE ARE SPRING/SUMMER 2024 FABRIC AND MATERIAL TRENDS!
Interaction of nature
The reunion of textile with nature brings to the fore the surfaces of natural fibers, traceable linen, and silk, as well as sensual and linen blends animated by yarn plays and knotted fabrics. Plain weaves with yarn dyed and eye-catching surfaces with irregularities that look like tiny faults are seen as prominent fabrics.
Sand-colored, rustic-effect natural and organic tones and random irregularities imitating artisanal craftsmanship and appearing as tiny faults give us a sense of belonging.
Slub, wool-blend linen and silks, dry-touch clean cotton crepes, paper-like wrinkled summer cottages, and air-permeable surfaces are the qualities that best reflect the effect of nature on us.
Stylish knitting and weaving inspired by artisans, knitting and macrame, basket weaving blended with modern versions allow the development of delicate surfaces and the growth of this trend.

Conformist materials
New uses with materials that support casual wear and liberate movement with their functional features; it highlights new clothing forms with fabrics that feel freer and feel good inside.
In the new season, mixed fabrics that will support multi-use and off-season clothing are used more. Tight poplins, fine gabardines, and stable knits adapt to different uses. Mixtures that are structured, easy to produce, and tend to be long-lasting, shifting from stylish to casual, from feminine to masculine.
While soft and flexible fabrics can replace second skin, anatomically bidirectional stretching fabrics that enable ergonomic designs, flexible voiles support body movement with designs borrowed from underwear.
Dense suit fabrics and silks, which provide generously draped falls and give a saturated, lived-in feeling, are seen in terms of reflecting comfort in stylish clothing.

Digital glow
This theme has technical taffeta, shiny calender effects, and crease-foldable and air-permeable synthetics. It creates imaginary effects that reflect sharp, shining light and color rather than metallic shine. The clean-surface glossy ripstop, mesh, and jacquard grades work beautifully in functional-featured designs.

Hidden sharpness
The sophisticated touch glitters and transparents, representing visible luxury, fade away when viewed closely and worn.
Silky voiles, tulle, and translucent-effect finishes support shimmering looks. Space and fill areas on mesh and mesh surfaces offer a mathematical elegance of geometry.
Fine lines and calmly repeating geometric patterns are evident in tulle and light guipures.
Fabulous knitwear, fine twist yarns, and meticulously woven miniature dobby surfaces will make you feel valuable in delicate collections that do not strain the eyes.

Knitwear and knitted fabrics
Exciting complimentary colors with striking textures and patterns allow classic pieces to be used in knitwear by updating them boldly and without limits. Very thin cashmere, which radiates happiness and does not feel seasonal, cotton with a dry touch, delicate structures that look like wool and feel soft to the touch, stand out in knitted qualities.
Continuing and keeping alive the cultural heritage of the past, handmade crochet works as one of the approaches that shape the future, and the use of colorful and fringed handcrafts is updated.
Refined blends of cashmere, cotton, and summer chenille yarns that give a feeling of warmth, and dry surfaces with a crunchy touch are widely available during seasonal transitions. Classic knits with summer matt felt-like surfaces make playing with voluminous or regular forms easy.
While textured piqués and waffle fabrics give a clean and soft feeling, double-plate knits support casual and sportswear with geometric patterns.
